CDBG Projects

The Jackson County Utility Authority, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) are currently overseeing eight wastewater and water projects made possible by $94 million in Federal funding provided to Jackson County after Hurricane Katrina.

The Jackson County Utility Authority is part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Region Utility Board, which was established by the Mississippi Legislature after Hurricane Katrina and includes five coastal counties (Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River and Stone). These five counties received over $630 million in Federal funding to develop a regional water and wastewater infrastructure “backbone” for the Gulf Coast for future economic development and to make Jackson County, along with the other coastal counties, as prepared as possible for future storms.

It is the job of the Jackson County Utility Authority to focus on the long term development of Jackson County and support the efforts of the Governor’s Office and MDEQ who have worked tirelessly to secure over $94 million in Federal funding for this county. The Jackson Count Utility Authority wants to actively address questions and concerns with developers, elected officials, and the general pubic. It is the policy of the Authority to gain a clear understanding of questions or concerns and provide information back to all interested parties in a timely manner.
